CCTV (closed-circuit television) is a TV system in which signals are monitored but not broadcast to the general public, simply for security and surveillance purposes.
Moreover, CCTV, commonly referred to as video surveillance, is the use of video cameras to convey a signal to a certain location and display it on a constrained number of displays. The transmission is not openly broadcasted, unlike broadcast television, albeit point-to-point (P2P), point-to-multipoint (P2MP), or mesh wired or wireless lines may be used. Although practically all video cameras fall under this criteria, the phrase is typically used to describe those that are utilized for surveillance at locations that need additional security or continual monitoring (videotelephony is rarely referred to as “CCTV”).
Russian scientist Léon Theremin created the first mechanical CCTV system in June 1927. (cf. Television in the Soviet Union). The device, which had a hundred-line resolution and was originally sought by the Soviet of Labor and Defense, was made out of a manually controlled scanning-transmitting camera, a wireless shortwave transmitter, and a receiver. Theremin’s CCTV system was exhibited to Joseph Stalin, Semyon Budyonny, and Sergo Ordzhonikidze after being taken over by Kliment Voroshilov. It was then put in the Moscow Kremlin courtyard to keep an eye on incoming guests.
In order to observe the launch of V-2 rockets, Siemens AG erected a further early CCTV system at Test Stand VII in Peenemünde, Nazi Germany, in 1942.

How is CCTV used?
